In this tutorial, our printer technician Matthew demonstrates the process on a Xerox VersaLink C505, but the same procedure applies to the C500, C600, and C605.
Step 1: Turn Off the Printer and Allow the Fuser to Cool
Before opening the printer, turn it off using the proper shutdown procedure.
The fuser reaches high temperatures during normal operation, so it may still be hot even after the printer stops printing.
Allow the component to cool before attempting to remove it. Follow the safety instructions provided with your replacement fuser and avoid touching any heated surfaces.
Step 2: Open the Rear Cover
Once the printer is powered off and the fuser has cooled, locate the rear cover.
Use the cover's handle to open it.
The fuser assembly is located directly inside the rear cover, so you won't need to remove other internal components to access it.
Step 3: Locate the Gray Release Latches
At the bottom of the fuser assembly, you'll notice two gray release latches with thumb-holds positioned above them.
These latches secure the fuser inside the printer and must be released before you can remove the assembly.
Place your thumbs on the thumb-holds above the latches and position your forefingers on the gray release mechanisms.
Step 4: Remove the Old Fuser
With your fingers positioned correctly, squeeze the two gray latches to release the fuser.
While holding the latches, carefully pull the entire fuser assembly straight out of the printer.
Keep your grip steady and support the assembly as it comes free.
If the fuser doesn't slide out, check that both gray latches are fully released rather than forcing the component.
Once removed, set the old fuser aside in a safe location.
Step 5: Locate the Metal Shelf for the New Fuser
Before installing the replacement, look inside the printer for the metal shelf that supports the fuser assembly.
This shelf is where the new fuser needs to sit before sliding it into the machine.

Once it's properly aligned, use your thumbs to push the assembly straight into the printer.
Continue pushing until you hear or feel the fuser latch into place.
