Help! I just updated my MacBook, and I lost the printing capabilities of my Xerox device!
Don’t panic; this is an issue we have handled many times. We have put together a step-by-step guide (with pictures) to help you resolve this issue.
Disclaimer, this guide is for MacBook specifically. If you’re having issues with another laptop brand, such as Chromebook, the answer and solution will differ from this guide.
After reading this article, you should be able to print from your MacBook once again, with all your Xerox features.
Follow these 10 steps to connect your newly updated MacBook to your Xerox printer
1. Google “Xerox drivers”
Once on Google, type “Xerox drivers” in the search bar, then click enter. The Product Support and Drivers page should be the first one that shows up.
Click on the title “Product Support and Drivers.”
2. Type in your machine name
The link will take you to this screen (see image below). Next, type in your machine name.
In the search bar at the top of the image below, type your machine name.
For example, type AltaLink C8030.
3. Click “Drivers & Downloads”
Next, click the “Drivers & Downloads” tab.
4. Set platform
In the drivers & downloads tab, ensure the “platform” selection is set for your MAC OS version. (See example below).
After you click “Apply filters,” scroll down to click “Driver installer.” Be sure to check you accept the terms and conditions.
5. File will download
The file will start downloading at the bottom of your browser. Once it’s finished, click on It to open the file.
6. Install
Once you open the driver, the installer is simple. Read the prompt that says, “Welcome to the Xerox Drivers Installer.” Click continue and follow the instructions.
You will be asked for the administrator password for your computer during the process. Have this readily available to speed up the process.
After you have completed the installer, you will be asked if you would like to move it to the trash. Click yes; there will not be another use for it.
7. Move to your MAC settings – printers & scanners
In your MAC computer’s settings, aka system preferences, choose “printers & scanners” from the available options.
8. Within printers & scanners – open “Options & Supplies”
Within the printers & scanners section of the settings, a list of all connected machines will appear.
Select the machine you would like to finish setting up, then open “Options & Supplies.”
9. Choose “Options”
Within the “Options & Supplies” tab, select “options.”
Install all options that you would like to be able to use with your machine during normal printing jobs.
As you can see in the image below, I only have the hole punch, trifold, and booklet fold options on my finisher installed because that’s the way my particular machine is configured.
You will need to change the settings to match your machine’s configuration.
To finish, click ‘OK.’
10. Print a test page
After clicking "OK," the process is complete, and you can close out of the System Preferences.
From there, you’ll need to print a test page to ensure everything worked.
Choose any document in your file to test. Click "file" and "print."
A printer driver will pop up. Look for the word “pages”. HINT: It’s right under the word "copies."
Under "pages," there is a drop-down feature that you can switch to "Xerox Features."
Once that is turned on, you will see all the features of your Xerox machine, such as staples, hole punch, or folding.
Congratulations, you have successfully downloaded and installed the driver needed to print with the Xerox printer.
